Model Additions - Star Wars
Good morning everyone; we have finally escaped 2020 together, at least according to the calendar. Along with a new year I have also completed a new batch of models; all Star Wars this time. First on my list for the year were Nebulon-B2 Frigates for both my Imperials and Rebels, a class I have long desired but been unable to acquire. Second on my list, having received a long awaited order from Warbases, were fighters. Picking through my box of Star Wars fighters, I selected a set of models and got to work.
Filling out the frigate weight class for my Imperial fleet are four Nebulon-B2 Frigates. This is an upgraded form of the classic Nebulon-B featuring heavier armour and firepower.
As with any class of starship the Imperials use, the Rebels end up with a few themselves; theft, defection, or black market purchases ensure nothing stays solely Imperial for long. For my Rebel fleet, two Nebulon-B2s should be sufficient.
Always in need of more basic TIEs, I made sure to include five TIE/Ln Fighters in this batch bringing my total up to twelve. It occurs to me that I can now model a full squadron of TIE Fighters in 1:1.
Alongside basic TIEs, three more TIE/Sa Bombers add to the collection of standard models at my disposal bringing my total to six bombers.
As I am primarily modeling the later years of the Galactic Civil War from Hoth to Endor, the proportion of Interceptors is higher than in previous years. The addition of three TIE/In Interceptors brings my total to six and should prove sufficient for my needs.
While I enjoy the advanced scout and recce TIE models I currently have, the Imperials desperately needed some cheaper options. Enter the TIE/Fc Fire Control fighter, a simpler and cheaper alternative. I modified these basic TIE models from FFG with the appropriate antennae.
Just as with the TIE/Fc, I desired a cheaper alternative to the TIE Bomber. The TIE/Gt Ground Targeting fighter is a basic TIE variant with an extended hull, bomb bay, and torpedo launchers. These smaller bombers are well suited for deployment on frigate and light cruiser class vessels. I modified these basic TIE models by extending the hull to the rear.
Advanced recce for the Imperial fleet is provided by the TIE/Rc Vanguard, a sensor heavy variant of the basic TIE. Alongside the one I already painted, my fleet now counts three Vanguards in its number.
Hyperdrive equipped fighters are a rarity in the Imperial fleet, long range scouts even more so. The TIE/Sr Scout is a niche variant in an overlooked role in my fleet. With one already painted I now posses three Scouts.
While I strive to build my collection in a sensible and lore consistent manner, even I need a treat occasionally. The TIE/It Interdictor is a variant of the TIE Bomber taken to a ludicrous degree with four ordinance pods surrounding a cockpit. This behemoth is silly, stupid, and I love it.
An often overlooked asset in the Imperial Navy, the GAT-12 Skipray Blastboat was a common sight deployed as standard on Imperial Class Star Destroyers. My fleet would not be complete without it.
But of course my Rebels needed one too.
My Rebel fleet contains a varied collection of starfighter types but their are some types which should be more common. The R-41 Starchaser is a widespread fighter used throughout the galaxy, including in great number by the Alliance. These two models join the one I had previously painted.
In use across the galaxy by planetary defense forces, pirates, and the Rebels, the Cloakshape is an underwhelming fighter, perfect for expanding my motley Rebel force.
I am a sucker for B-Wings; I don't have any need for six models, the two I have painted already are more than sufficient. But I had four more, so now I have six.
RZ-1 A-Wings are a frightening fighter when used correctly and are a favorite of my gaming group. The two I already had did not feel like enough but with six now completed I feel it does.
Continuing to expand the fighter options for the Rebels, the R60 T-Wing enters the collection. The T-Wing is an underwhelming fighter that failed to deliver on its promise to supplant the A-Wing but makes for an interesting alternative nonetheless.
One fighter that every group has, fields, or needs is the BTL Y-Wing. This venerable design saw action from the Clone Wars all the way to the fight against the First Order. With these three I now have six but I need more, mostly as I need to convert a few into Longprobes, the recce variant of the Y-Wing.
Everyone loves X-Wings, everyone wants X-Wings, everyone forgets about the Z-95 Headhunter. As widespread as the Y-Wing, the Z-95 fought all across the Civil War far outnumbering the X-Wing until perhaps Endor. This unsung hero of the Rebellion deserves more love which is why I now have six.
With these models completed I laid out the entirety of my two fighter collections. The Imperial horde has reached the point where any more additions will cause it to expand to a second shelf in my gaming room.
The gaggle of Rebel fighters has now forced me to push the fighters and ships onto two separate shelves as I had to do with the Imperials some time ago. In taking this picture I realized that I only have three X-Wings painted, something I will have to correct in the near future.

That's everything for now. At the moment my butt is being kicked by 22 Excelsior Class and 4 Centaur Class for my Starfleet force. Its a lot of straight black lines along nacelles, ugh.
Great as always!
ReplyDeleteI always had a soft spot for the Cloakshape. I know it's not supposed to be a 'good' fighter by any means but I like its looks and it slots in very nicely alongside the Z-95 and T-wing as an alternative to the usual Y-wing, X-Wing, A-wing for second rate, less-supplied rebel forces or for local forces/pirates.
My thought process exactly.
